15-Nov-2003 -- This confluence is located in the Sonoran Desert approximately 11 miles south of Mexico Highway 2 between San Luis and Sonyota. This confluence would appear to be easily reachable on most maps, however an approximately 10 mile long mountain chain runs parallel to the highway and blocks direct access.

Access to the confluence must be made around the western or eastern end of the chain. The western access is across open desert and appears to be the easiest. However, there is a "No Entrada" sign on one of the dirt roads leading into the area.

Further research on the internet indicates that this area is probably part of the Pinacate Biosphere Presevere which covers hundreds of square miles. Off-road driving is prohibited in the area and a permit is required for access. A web search using the key word "Pinacate" will yield several sites related to the preserve.

It may be possible to obtain permission to visit this confluence from the park headquarters. However, be aware. I believe the confluence is located deep into some sand dunes in a very remote area. According to the web, this area contains the largest area of sand dunes in North America. Some of the dunes are reported to be 180 meters high. It is also one of the hottest and driest places in North America.
