10-Jan-2004 -- Minus 15 c this morning in Thunder Bay. Glen Hooper arrived at my house at 9:00 am. With our Skidoo Tundras on his double trailer behind my truck we headed out of town. Almost hit 2 deer crossing Highway 11&17, just past Hodder Avenue. Turned north on Highway 527 (known locally as the Spruce River Road)and drove for 45 kms till we reached the Dorion Cut-Off Road. The road was plowed and in good shape, they must logging in the area. At kilometre 22.5 we turned around, parked and unloaded the machines. Off to bag a confluence!
After about 10 kms the old cut road we were on gradually became impassable. Too overgrown with brush. What a disappointment! My GPS showed we were still 4.14 kms from the confluence point. It was too late in the day to go for it on snowshoes so we had to give up.
But it wasn't too late to drill a few holes in a nearby lake and fish for a few hours. By 5:00 pm we had 3 small splake and a whitefish. Well, that made up for the earlier disappointment.
