05-Jan-2000 (15:24 MST) -- I set up a waypoint for the site, at my office in Peace River, and then turned off my Garmin 12.

In the afternoon of January 5, 2000, I left Peace River and drove toward the hamlet of Reno, Alberta, turning on my GPS part way there. Arriving at Reno, I drove a couple of sectional roads to find the closest approach for the site.

I arrived at a farm that according to the yard sign, was owned by Ronnie and Penny Butz. I drove in and parked in the yard and went to the house. A lady came to the door and invited me in. So in I went. Her name was Penny Butz.

I explained that I just wanted to take a picture or two in the adjacent field, as that is where the lines of latitude and longtitude for this area crossed each other. She was quite interested and told me the best way to approach the adjacent field. So off I trudged through their farm yard and a bit of northern bush bordering an adjacent field. The snow was only about 6 inches deep. I walked slowly trying to settle down the Garmin 12, found the spot, took the pics, and came back to say thanks and goodbye.

We chatted for a few moments. She then understood that this wasn't part of my job, but that I was doing it simply for fun, which made it even more interesting. Anyway, it was a pleasant meeting, and I said goodbye and headed back to the office.

Had a bit of fun with some of the powered parachute enthusiasts about the event on the Onelist site on the following days. That's about it.
