(visited by Anand Karve, Ashwini Karve, Anirban Muzumdar and Mr Saha)

03-Apr-2004 -- I got to know of the Confluence Project in the proram Click Online on BBC world and since then the idea was humming in my head to visit the one nearest to me.

I am presently in West Bengal, India in a small town calles Kanchrapara 60 kms North of Kolkota (earlier Calcutta). I had a GPS and access to maps and on the map the closest confluence was 23N and 88E. After planning the route and plotting it on the GPS the next task was getting hold of someone who spoke the local lingo i.e. Bengali. I got hold of two acquiatances in town Anirban Muzumdar and Mr Saha and with due consent of my wife planned the visit for 02 Apr.

The state has a good network of roads (though the condition is bad) and off the map a road was passing very close to the point. That would reduce the walking time.

We started off in the morning at 0800 and took an hour and a half to reach the village Monirambati where the GPS said 400mtrs to the west. We got off the vehicle and started walking due west as the pointer indicated. We crossed a small stream on a narrow bamboo bridge and finally arrived at the point, not before a lil' confluence dance.

After the customary clicks the locals had gathered to find out what was happening as it is election time in India and they thought that finally somebody has come to do something about their woes. But alas. After a walk back and a quick bite we started off for home and planned to hit 22N and 88E the next Sunday.
