This degree of confluence is situated on Arcoona Station, NNE of Woomera and just outside the Woomera Prohibited Area; an area which takes up a large slice of outback South Australia and Western Australia.
I was scheduled to be in Woomera for a weekend of meetings and this provided me with the ideal opportunity to go “confluencing” again! A phone call to Andrew Pobke of Arcoona Station confirmed this.
As I left Woomera I wondered if the weather would hold off. The forecast was for a major cold change to arrive with high winds and hail during the evening. Now it was totally overcast with a light breeze. At the station Andrew agreed that I could drive cross-country but warned of boggy holes and other 4WD traps. This is treeless gibber tableland country and not very inspiring to behold - it is however good sheep country.
From the closest point of approach the confluence was approximately 6kms distant. This I accomplished in 25 minutes. Out with the camera and my first two GPS photos were duds! Completely out of focus. Third time lucky! Imagine going all that way and being unable to prove it!
The job done I was back in Woomera by 4.30pm. The only wildlife I saw for the whole afternoon were 4 emus. Now to plan the next ”confluencing” trip.
