11-Sep-2004 -- After a short vacation in Antalya we decided to get another confluence point on our way back to Istanbul on September 11, 2004, and since point 39N 31E was more or less on our way and, as far as we could see on our map, very close to the street, we used the GPS and drove on D250 near the point. We were very lucky, as it was afternoon already, we were already very high (about 1000 meters) above sea level, and the point was only one kilometer away from us, and no hill or mountain in our way to be climbed.
We turned right on a narrow street leading us closer and closer to the confluence point. The street war more a path than a street, so after about four hundred meters we had to leave the car and had to continue on foot, which was not too bad as we only had to walk for another 700 meters until the GPS indicated that we were there. We switched the GPS from meters to latitude and longitude and after a very short while found the point where the GPS showed us five zeros. We took the pictures, smoked a confluence cigarette and went back to the car. It was the easiest point we ever made! No bushes, no water, no mountain, nothing was in our way. Since that point had been so easy, we decided, checking the map back at the car, to get to another point on our way back to Istanbul.
The nice side effect of these terrible earthquakes that took place in Turkey are the thermal water springs the country has all over. After having visited the point 39N 31E successfully, we drove back to Afyon and spent the night at a very nice and comfortable thermal hotel. Of course, after having bathed in warm thermal water and after having tested the very dangerous waterslide!
