A trip offering the opportunity to visit three Confluences was done from Palapye (Botswana) to the origin of the Zambezi River in the northwest corner of Zambia and back. The source is close to where the borders of Zambia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) meet. After having visited 18S 25E two days before, this was the second Confluence visited on Day 5 of our trip:

05-Oct-2004 -- Day started at 17 km NW of Kalangola (Zambia) and ended in Kalabo (on the southern side of the Liuwa Plains National Park, all in Zambia).

A thoroughly enjoyable day, with the route winding its way between the Zambezi flood plains on the right, and hundreds of little villages on the left. While searching for the confluence point, one of the jerry cans with diesel on Jan's Prado jumped open and spilled the lot over the rooftop tent, other luggage and the vehicle.

The area is very sandy and have millions of Mopani trees standing about 2-4 metres from each other.
