06-May-2010 -- Coming from Rosario (Argentina) and bound for Santa Marta (Colombia) with a cargo of 30,000 tons of maize, during night we have passed the Galleons Passage (see 11N 61W) between Trinidad and Tobago, and this morning we were on 11N 63W.

With good visibility as today we can make out in NNW a group of small islands known as Los Testigos. They belong to Venezuela and are comprised of (from left to right in the picture):

  • Isla Iguana, the westernmost island
  • Isla Testigo Grande; the largest and highest island, about 6 km long with an elevation of 246 m in the central part.
  • Isla Conejo, about 4.5 km east of Testigo Grande
  • Isla Rajada; almost north of the Confluence, lies about 5 km east of Isla Testigo Grande.

Small settlements of fishermen and goatherds exist on Isla Testigo Grande and Isla Iguana.

Looking to SE and to SSW, we see the mainland of Venezuela, i.e. the coast of the Peninsula de Paria.
