  43°N 80°W (visit #9)

#1: location of 43N_80W from a distance of 98 m from east

(visited by Thomas Barthel)

05-Jul-2019 -- During our summer holidays in Canada, I took the chance to visit some confluence points. The first one in this row was the CP 43°N 80°W, in the north of Lake Erie.

After seeing the giant waterfalls of Niagara, I visited this confluence point. After passing Caledonia at the highway 6 I chose "3rd Line", direction east, and "1st Row", direction south, to come as close as possible to the CP. Only 360 m away from the CP a huge paddle stopped us for parking. We used a rented clean car, so I don't wanted to take a risk. After going through a maybe 40 m wide stripe of woodland I reached an open field and saw the large high voltage transmission lines. Near the pylons some brushwood was growing. But soon I stood on a already harvested field on which the CP should be located. When I appeared a turkey hen ran away. Now it was a walk of about 150 m and I could take the needed pictures. The satellite reception was good, with an accuracy of only 2 m. This successful visit of the confluence point 43°N 80°W was my first one in Canada! On my way back I noticed some insects bugging me. But as long as I was in move it was bearable.

This visit took place around 01:30 p.m. and was done quite fast. It was my first visit of a confluence point at the American continent and my most western so far! The last visit took place five years ago, but I couldn't see important changes. It is just a field. In opposite to the last visitor I didn't had to cross any fence on my way.

After spending the night on a campground at the Lake Erie, we saw the nice town of Port Dover on the next day.

The story continues at 44°N 80°W visit #9.
