31-May-2005 -- The last of our 5 visits (48N, 47N, 46N, 45N, and now 44N4E) on the fourth meridian east. We try to reach Marseille from Paris following roughly this meridian (no! we are not crazy… well, not that much…). Today is the 9th day of trip and were close to 900km on the clock ! We’ve just left the Massif Central so we’ve already made the tougher part, particularly looking to the positive height (around 14000 m for the whole trip). Before reaching this point, in the morning we left from Florac and we went down on the splendid Corniche des Cévennes!

This point is not really difficult to reach. The road (D35) brings us at 400m from the point and then we take a track in the garigue which seems to have been made especially to reach the point ! It brings us at 10 meters from it. The vegetation is low so the signal is quite good and the required accuracy is reached quickly. Then we have a picnic (abundant as usual ! ) on the spot. Besides the heavy heat, the cicada’s songs confirm that we’re arrived in Provence… and that Marseille is not far any more! After visiting the point, we go to Remoulins near the Pont du Gard to spend the night. The day after, very excited after 130km riding we arrived… in MARSEILLE ! This is the end of a beautiful adventure… an experience both human and sporting !

31-May-2005 -- C’est la dernière de nos 5 visites. Nous sommes le 31 mai 2005 et il y a 9 jours, le 22 mai, nous sommes partis de Paris à vélo avec pour objectif de rallier Marseille en suivant le 4ème méridien. Nous approchons des 900 km au compteur depuis Paris. Le plus dur est fait, surtout au regard du dénivelé (14000 m au total) puisque nous venons de quitter le Massif Central en descendant la magnifique Corniche des Cévennes, étant partis tôt le matin de Florac.

Ce point n’est pas compliqué à atteindre. On s’en rapproche un maximum grâce à la route D35 (400m). Puis un chemin dans la garrigue, qui semble avoir été fait spécialement pour rejoindre le point, nous amène à moins de 10m de celui-ci! La végétation est basse, le signal passe bien donc la précision requise est obtenue aisément. Nous pique-niquons ensuite sur place (abondamment comme d’habitude). En plus de la lourde chaleur, le chant régulier des cigales confirme que nous sommes bien en Provence… et que Marseille n’est plus très loin ! Après la visite du point nous filons passer la nuit à Remoulins près du Pont du Gard. Le lendemain après 130km de route nous arrivons tout excités… à MARSEILLE ! Une belle aventure se termine… une expérience à la fois humaine et sportive !
