10-Sep-2005 -- The first visit to this spot on 7/9/05 was unsuccessful. I was short of time before my meeting in Motherwell to collect my regatta kit after the 7 hour trek to 57N4W and the break in the weather had arrived and it was raining heavily. I made the mistake of parking as close as possible because of the constraints above and it rapidly became obvious that I was the wrong side of a small wood and I didn't get any closer than 270m.
But nothing daunted it was only 15 miles from Glasgow and I knew I'd have time later in the week during the regatta so I returned on the Saturday evening and approached from the opposite side and made my way quickly to the site which is in quite a pronounced hollow.
Pic 1 shows the view to the south taken from about 30m down the hill from the confluence and shows a much better view in comparison with Pic 2 which is the view to the south at the confluence. Pics 3-5 show the other cardinal points from the confluence and Pic 6 shows the GPS. Pic 7 shows the view on the way back to the car taken looking towards the confluence from a distance of 710m. The confluence is in the hollow next to the solitary tree standing just above the centre of the picture.
