21-Aug-2002 -- We had already visited the confluence 1S 36E six days before. Sunday, the 21st was our last day in Tsavo West National Park and what we had seen meanwhile was very impressive and will be unforgettable. Four out of the African Big Five, elephant, leopard, water buffalo, and lion we could nearly touch on our safari (The Rhino followed two days later, but not combined with a Confluence visit).
Mount Kilimanjaro rose up to heaven just in front of us. To take the picture we cut short our sleep in the early morning before sunrise. And then we focussed on another confluence, 3S 38E, app. 37 km as the crow flies from our lodge.
We left the lodge shortly after lunch and passed the "Chaimu" volcano and lava field. It seemed we could get easily to the Confluence but unfortunately, the tracks bent around some mountains or just ended up in a lodge or camp.
Finally, we could manage to get 60 m close to the Confluence on a track.
So it was just a short walk through the wilderness and we could take all the pictures shortly before sunset. For us, it was the second successful visit of a Confluence in Africa.
