04-Sep-2007 -- florida 2007 - our third trip to North America this year. Vancouver (yes I know it's Canada but same continent) in February yielded no visits. New York in May turned up 5 successful hunts. September sees us based about an hour north of Tampa in Spring Hill. We are about a mile from the Weeki Wachee water park where apparently you can still see mermaids
Yesterday was travel day so today is a wind down day for the girls (my wife Lynn & daughter Rachel) and a CP hunting day for me. According to the sat-nav this is 108 miles and 2 hrs 38 mins. I can't believe it will take that long somehow... 1 hr 50 mins later and I swing into the entrance to troy springs state park and park by an empty rangers hut.
I need to hop over a fence into the forest but I notice a rusty "Do not Trespass" sign, owned by the state of Florida and on "my" side of the fence. In other words it's to keep people out from where I was already parked! There was a locking gate so I guess sometimes the park is closed.
The first visit here mentioned trees about 8 feet high, since then they've grown a bit, they are now about 30 feet high.
Hop over the fence and two minutes later i am right at the spot, this time without SA but because of the tree cover I can only get 20 feet accuracy. Take the required photo's and back over the fence to see a FL resident that you don't mind coming across.
I wandered down to the main road and saw an abandoned collapsed shack, I was going to explore it but got stopped by a FL resident that you wouldn't want to cross. It's body was about 3" across...
I wonder why nobody has been here for 6 years?
