13-Aug-2006 -- A group of us did a trip meeting at Boulia for the 2006 Camel Races and heading off to traverse the Hay River to eventually end at Louth for the Horse Races. Pat & Perry Stedman told us about the Confluence Project and guided us to our first (see 23oS 139oE).
Many miles later and a broken Defender clutch, gearbox, etc Anthony “Shorty” and I were towed for 789kms from the bottom of Hay River to Alice Springs by Carl Flannery and Julie. A week later, Carl and Julie drove me to Louth Races to pick up my Discovery and to meet up with the rest of our companions.
When I left on the Sunday, I noticed I was very close to a Confluence Point so opted out for a break from driving. After a bit of a hike, and keeping an eye on all the wild goats, I entered a bit of scrub and finally found the right spot. Although the trees did play havoc with the GPS readings. And now I notice someone got here before me. But I did leave a marker, no rocks around for a cairn bit settled for a tin on a stake. Looking forward to trying for some more out in the Simpson later this year.
