04-Oct-2007 -- Geraldine and I were visiting Melbourne while on holidays from Western Australia. I wanted to travel over some of my old stamping grounds and show Geraldine around.
I lived in Melbourne, in the seventies (1970-1980). One of my favourite places, then, was the Tanjil River. I spent many happy years prospecting for gold there. My prospecting mates and I had chosen the Tanjil River goldfield because, unlike most goldfields in Victoria, it was located in a quiet, isolated, picturesque natural forest setting, a vast contrast to the bustle of busy Melbourne city and a mere hour and a half’s drive away. Mind you the time it took to drive did vary quite considerably depending on traffic.
These days prospecting for gold, where my claim was, is no longer an option because of the damming of the Tanjil, the Blue Rock Dam, so I went prospecting for a confluence within cooee of the area. Visiting confluences is a relatively new hobby of mine. I have visited a number in the remote desert area of Western Australia.
We stayed overnight in Warragul, a large rural town. The following day we travelled up through the glorious, undulating country side of the Gippsland, through Buln Buln and Neerim South. It was a beautiful spring day and a very pleasant pass time.
So it was that with the aid of the GPS we located this confluence.
