2008 Ireland Tour
The path does the job.
Continued from 54N-07W
One of the previous visitors suggested approaching from the West through the stud farm, my perusal of the maps on multimap suggested either from the South or the East.
Just 99 miles from 54N-07W and I pass the entrance to a farm. The entrance that way is "preserved" to registered guests and by the way you're not allowed to ride a bike.
I carried on the road swinging around the loop to the South of the CP, at exactly 8W there is nowhere to park. Continue for a few hundred yards and there is a large cutting on the left. Swing in and park up.
If you look almost due West you are about 600 yards from the CP. Looking to the North-East you can just make out a cottage in the woods. I can hear the sounds of earth moving going on in that direction.
To the south there is logging going on, but the empty trailers indicate nothing has been cut today.
I get kitted up, head 50 yards North and then turn West towards the CP. Over a wire fence then through a gap in the stone wall. Head straight to the point.
It is right at the edge of a clump of brambles, bearing in mind the "revenge of the fence" earlier today at 54-7 I was hoping to avoid having to climb into the thicket.
Sometimes you get lucky! The CP is right on the edge. I tried averaging, but with only 5 satellites visible and tree cover it was no more accurate than the spot reading.
I decided to leave by going South to the road and walk back along the road to the car. I have only gone about 100 feet and I am on a path?
Nobody mentioned that before! Back to the road and climb over a step, affixed to the step on the outside is a sign saying "Private" ooops...
60 miles back to the cottage and 349 miles for the day.
