#1: The confluence point is somewhere in this blackberry patch

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

07-Aug-2008 -- After my previous confluence visit to 52N-09W, I drove back to Millstreet, then (past Cork Racecourse) to Mallow, then North to Limerick, then took the N-7 highway to just East of Nenagh. From there, I took (several) country roads, crossed the Ballyfinboy 'River', and finally took a road that passed just Southwest of the confluence point.

Taking the advice of previous visitors, I started from the South, to avoid the "Private Property - No Entry, Except..." gates. (It appears, though, that the confluence point does lie (barely) within "Fairymount Farms".) The bad news is that I had to traverse several blackberry patches. The good news is that it was blackberry season, so I also got to enjoy several tasty blackberries at the same time.

Gordon Spence noted that the confluence point was "on the edge" of a "bramble patch" (blackberries). I found, though, that - according to my GPS receiver - the confluence point lies within the patch; I was not able to get any closer than about 7 meters East of the confluence point. However, my receiver's reported GPS error was also 7 meters, so it's possible that the confluence point really is on the edge of the blackberry patch - as Gordon Spence noted. In any case, the blackberry patch will likely spread in the future to encompass the confluence point for sure.

This ends my visit to Ireland - which happens to be a particularly rewarding country for confluence hunters. During my trip, I visited seven confluence points, four of which - 54N-10W, 53N-09W, 52N-10W and 52N-09W - are quite spectacular.
