20-Dec-2008 -- In December, my cousin Wendell and I went on a road trip to Indiana for a friend's graduation from Purdue University and his subsequent commissioning into Navy flight school training. Our route went via New Orleans, however, so that we could have a day of fun in warm weather before braving the 0°F temperatures up north.

We visited 31°N, 89°W on a nice partly cloudy day after leaving New Orleans that morning. The initial plan was to visit 30°N, 90°W, but we were discouraged by signs near that confluence saying not to enter. However, 31/89 was on our way and looked to be easy enough to get to so we opted for it instead.

The confluence is in the Desoto National Forest in southern Mississippi, a very beautiful area abundant with pine trees. The point itself is directly on a gravel back road. No trespassing required to reach it!

Because of the tree cover, it was hard to locate the exact point, and even in the 10 minutes we were there it seemed to move around a lot, from one side of the gravel road to the other. The pictures should still capture the essence of the area.
