14-Aug-2010 -- I visited my very first confluence today. I was on my way back from a geocaching weekend in Kaikoura and mentioned to my traveling companion that I had heard about confluences and that there was one on our way home. We turned inland from Kekerengu to see how close to gz we could get. The confluence appeared to be in a small vineyard on what was obviously private property.

Not to be deterred we decided to see if anyone was at home at the nearby house. The owners were in and advised that they were well aware of the significance of their property to those that carried gps devices. They referred to us as GPSers and they hadn't really heard of geocaching but mentioned they had had a few people visit the confluence in the past. In fact they had marked the spot with a small concrete paver and we were welcome to see how accurate we thought this was. After receiving some instructions on appropriate access we headed into the vineyard and took a couple of photos showing all the zero's. We found the existing marker approx 7m off so the owner marked our gz too. A very good 3m+/- accuracy on the Garmin 60CSx today. Our first confluence, an interesting experience and we're glad we stopped.
