21-Apr-2011 -- From previous visitors' reports, I knew that I could reach this confluence point by hiking onto the Appalachian Trail from Sky Meadows State Park. My previous confluence visits on my current 'round the US road trip' had involved very short hikes only, so I was looking forward to a non-trivial hike for a change. Weather conditions were excellent for hiking: clear and sunny, and about 60 degrees F.

Shortly after reaching the Appalachian Trail, I turned left (westward) onto the "Old Trail", to take me closer to the confluence point. I then left the trail to hike 0.4 miles through the trees to the confluence point. This, as I later learned, was a mistake, because there's an old road - branching off the "Old Trail" - that takes you to the confluence point. So, a note for future visitors: Take the "Old Trail" to [38.99885,-77.99289], then walk along the old road the rest of the way.

Shortly before reaching the confluence point, I saw the old chimney that several previous visitors had noticed. The confluence point itself was just off the old road, among a pile of downed trees. Getting 'all zeros' was difficult, but I finally succeeded.
