#1: The confluence point lies beside a small wash, with desert grass, rocks, and horse poop

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

13-Dec-2011 -- This is a beautiful desert confluence point, located beside a small wash, with Joshua Trees, Yucca plants, and several types of cactus nearby.

I had originally planned to visit this confluence point after visiting the nearby Grand Canyon Skywalk just over a week earlier, but I ran out of time that day, so on my return to the Las Vegas area I felt compelled to try once again.

After driving through Meadview, which is one of those strange "why is there a town here?" towns that you often find in desert regions, I drive down onto the Grapevine Wash, parked there, and then hiked to the confluence point - just under 2 miles away, 'as the crow flies'

Unfortunately, not being a crow, a direct hike to the confluence point would involve hiking up and down several hills. So I tried to avoid climbing/descending as much as possible, by following the washes. Shawn Fleming's waypoints were a big help here. By following his waypoints, I ended up avoiding most of the hills, for a hike of about 2.5 miles each way.

It was a cold day - about 40 degrees Fahrenheit - so I had to don several layers of clothing for my hike.
