08-Feb-2013 -- Continuing my drive through Victoria's "Western Plains", from 38S-144E I passed through the small town of Derrinallum, next to the distinctive volcanic scoria cone
"Mount Elephant", and then onto this easy confluence point, which lies in a field just 260 metres east of a paved road. One thing made this visit a little tricky was that I first had to climb over a barbed wire fence, while avoiding the electric fence just next to it. (The electric fence might not have been 'live', because there were no animals in the field, but I still didn't want to risk touching it.) I was also tormented by many annoying flies as I walked towards the confluence point.
A previous visitor in 2008 noted that the field had been planted with oats. Now, however, the field has been left fallow, and contains nothing but long grass, and several thistles. (I have also seen these thistles - with their distinctive purple flowers - in California. They turn out to be an introduced pest in both places.) Another noteworthy feature of the confluence point is that there is a pile of volcanic boulders nearby. This pile appears to be man made - presumably to clear the surrounding field for agriculture.
