(visited by Ross Finlayson)

22-Feb-2016 -- After spending the night in Dubbo, I started the day by visiting this degree confluence point in a forest, north-east of Dubbo. Fortunately, a set of dirt forestry roads (laid on on a grid) took me just 160 m east of the point. (I was able to drive these dirt roads, slowly, with my 2WD car; however, I’d be wary of trying to drive on these roads with a 2WD car shortly after rain.)

This was the first recorded visit to this point since Stephan Theriault’s visit 9 years earlier. At that time, the area had been ravaged by a bush fire, and Stephan’s photos showed nothing but charred tree stumps. 9 years later, however, the forest vegetation seems to have almost fully recovered - although there is clear evidence - on several tree trunks - that a fire was here.

While hiking through the brush towards the confluence point, I found a small clearing with an aerial surveying marker (in the shape of a cross). This marker may have indicated the confluence point in some other datum; it is 115 m east of the WGS84 point.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
