15-Jul-2000 -- A rainy confluence.

It's becoming a reflex of sorts: when looking at the map before going some place, check for a nearby confluence! Having business south of Charleroi, Michèle and I found we'd be only about 40 km from a confluence in Northern France. The Michelin roadmap which had proven quite reliable before was showing the spot to be near a rural road, easy enough. And so it was. The confluence lies on the South edge of Wignehies, a small town on the border between the "Nord" and "Ardennes-Champagne" regions of France.

We were a bit frustrated with this visit. Although we were within the specifications of the project and hence should consider it a success, we could not satisfy ourselves to having found the exact confluence.

No sooner had we begun to look for the exact spot, light rain started. I just had the time to snap a couple of pictures before it began to pour. Since there was no chance it would stop anytime soon and we had to get back home, we had to settle for the GPS reading we had in the car. It suggests that we were about 60 meters north of it. The confluence is probably just off the road behind the hedge seen to the left of the picture looking south. Another time, maybe...
