09-Jun-2018 -- This is the 11^th out of 12 reports reaching confluence points in Poland. The story starts at 52°N 21°E and continues from 54°N 20°E.

After 78 minutes driving, we had reached the confluence location coming from the neighbouring confluence in the east. We came through the famous town Malbork (just 3 km distance to the CP), but we had no time to visit ancient Malbork Castle. I had visited the castle back in the year 1992 on a bicycle trip from Germany to Scandinavia.

We reached the confluence on a forest track and parked at a little clearing in 100 m distance. The confluence is located in a hilly beech forest mixed with oak and maple trees. We were wandering why the area was so uneven. Only later we learned that there are former bunkers. In contrast to previous visits where I read that these bunkers are from World War I, I learned from Wikipedia (only in Polish) that their beginnings are actually from the year 1903. The decision of the Prussian government to build a complex of fortifications in Malbork for defending an important crossing of the Berlin-Królewiec railway line was taken on January 14, 1898. In 1903 the construction of the main core of the defence complex was completed. After the outbreak of the First World War, in the years 1914-1915, the ring of fortifications of the Malbork fortress was extended. At that time new concrete structures were built.

Although the sun was still shining a little above the horizon, the huge trees shadowed the confluence such that we had hardly enough light to take sharp pictures.
