  47°N 8°E (visit #12)

#1: Location of 47N 8E at a distance of 17 m from north

(visited by Thomas Barthel)

27-Jul-2018 -- During the summer holidays direction Pyrenees I had the chance to visit some confluence points. The last one of these 15 visits was the confluence 47°N 8°E.

Coming from Bern, we took the road 10 along the rivers "Ilfis", "Weissemme" and "Kleine Emme" and reached the area of the confluence from west. I like the cheese coming from here, called "Emmentaler". At the village Entlebuch we left the main road, named "Hauptstraße", passed the villages Doppelschwand and Romoos on the road K35 until we reached the bus stop "Romoos Schwändi", next to a ropeway building. I parked besides the road, about 80 meters north-west of the bus stop, very close to a gate which gives access to a hiking trail.

After changing my shoes I started the walk along this trail. After a descending walk of 320 m, I chose the track to the right, passed a gate and stayed on the trail, named "Ume Napf Dür Gräbe" ("Napf" is a name of a mountain, around 5 km to the west). The closest distance to the CP from that trail was 88 m. I hoped to find good access and continued walking this path. But I went too far away direction north-west, down to the "Goldbach". So I returned and searched for a possibility to climb downwards, on a place which is not too dangerous. To my good luck the ground was very dry and not slippery. After proceeding 80 m horizontally I stood 50 m deeper!

It was a forest of mainly conifer trees with good possibilities to find a way through. Despite the bad satellite reception I was lucky to get all the zeros of the CP 47°N 8°E on my GPS display, including a usable picture of it! On my way up, back to the trail, I found a tree with a sign "Plaun Dils Matts - The World Famous Point im Luzerner Hinterland" on it. Next to this tree I found a geocache.

After this visit our tour continued direction Zurich.
