#1: The confluence point lies in a patch of forest, just 50 feet from a logging road. (This is also a view to the South, towards the road.)

(visited by Ross Finlayson)

07-Aug-2024 -- While spending a day in Kalispell, Montana (to visit Glacier National Park), I took some time in the afternoon to revisit this easy Degree Confluence Point just to the South. I had previously visited this point ten years ago, in June 2014, but wanted to revisit it to get a drone’s-eye view.

As before, I drove along Chintzey Lane, and parked beside the gate at [48.00612,-113.99071], 0.6 miles from the point. I then continued hiking along Chintzey Lane (now a doubletrack farm road), and then climbed up through the forest to reach the point. (This time, I remembered to carry bear spray.)

When I reached the point, I got a big surprise: There is now a large dirt logging road passing just 50 feet South of the point. Archival satellite imagery from Google Earth suggests that this logging road is less than two years old, as it did not exist in August 2022. So it appears that there is now a much easier way to reach this point: Take Mission Divide Road (dirt) South to [47.99913,-114.00805], and then hike about 1/2 mile East along the dirt logging road, directly to the point.

Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
