16-Apr-2001 -- My wife and I had just spent the weekend in Berlin. I wondered if there was a confluence between Berlin and our home in Mannheim that had not yet been visited. Since we were traveling by train I needed to find a confluence that was accessible from a train station. After looking at the maps I found 52N 12E which appeared to be near the Güterglück train station.

We took the high speed train from Berlin to Magdeburg. From there we switched to the slow local train which took us to Güterglück in about 30 minutes. I wasn't sure what to expect when we stepped off the train in Güterglück. There wasn't much of a train station. What used to be the station building now seemed to be abandoned and boarded up. We walked out of the station and didn't find much of a town. There didn't seem to be any people around, the whole area seemed deserted.

We found the road which matched the map so we started walking towards the confluence which was about one kilometer away. Eventually the road made a left turn and then ran parallel to the railroad tracks. A couple hundred meters from the confluence we came across an old abandoned railway building. At this point the GPS showed the confluence as being on the other side of the tracks. So we crossed the tracks and found a farm with a fence around it. We were 30 meters away from the confluence so to avoid walking on the farmer's field we decided that was close enough. The view wasn't very exciting, since the land was flat with not much to see. In addition to pictures of the confluence itself I also took some pictures of the railroad tracks behind us since that was more interesting. The rail line isn't used much so I didn't get a chance to take a picture with a train in it. After spending a few minutes there we walked back to the train station and caught the next train back to Magdeburg.

This was a fun and easy confluence to reach. And one of the few that have been reached by using public transportation.
