19-May-2001 -- Near the route from Munich to Izola in Slovenia, from where we wanted to take a sailing yacht (which had been in Slovenia for maintenance work) to Pula in Croatia (of course combined with a little sailing holiday), are some confluence points (#1, #2) which had not been visited yet; one of them is in Italy in the west of the town Udine, near a small village called San Lorenzo.

We knew from a bicycle tour three years before that the terrain there is rather flat, so it should not be a problem to reach the point. Coming from Tolmezzo in the north, we arrived in San Lorenzo at about 13:30, luckily with superb sunny and warm weather.

The maps from www.mapquest.com showed that the point must be somewhere inside the village, at the eastern side – so we drove to the centre and followed the arrow on the GPS device. It led us into a cul de sac called "via viola"; actually not bad, but a gate with a house behind stopped us just about 50 m away from the point.

Next trial: the street to the east, from where a gravel way ("via selve") at the end of the village went in the direction of the confluence point. After a few hundred meters, at a junction, we dropped the car and walked on foot – westbound, toward the village. After been walking along a field and a vineyard, we arrived in the backyard of a house (probably the one we have seen behind the gate from the other side). The confluence point must be somewhere there, at the corner of the house, where we took some photos.

We did not succeed in hitting the point exactly – it could also be somewhere inside the house – but only a few meters away from this corner of the house, near a gas tank and a gravel heap.
