14-Oct-2001 -- On the way home from a weekend celebrating my brother’s 30th birthday, we decided to see if we could find the confluence at 51N 3W.
The confluence is quite easy to get to, as it is not far from the M5 motorway. Take exit 25 near Ruishton and head east along the A358. Then follow the road to the left (A378) for just a mile and turn left at the cross roads. 200 yards up that road pull into the driveway on the left. The confluence is in the field at the rear of the house.
We arrived quite late in the evening, as the photos show. This is becoming a problem this time of year, as the days grow shorter. Unlike the directions above, I parked our car in the driveway to a field after turning right instead of left at the crossroads. Seeing that there was a public footpath heading in the direction of the confluence, I followed the GPS towards the point. I found myself heading towards a field full of sheep. I decided that the confluence was in the field behind the sheep and that I would ask permission to enter the property at the near by houses. When you make the left at the crossroads and travel along the street you’ll come to two homes on your left. I asked the resident at No.4 if I could go into the field behind the house to look for the confluence, (reminder, next time take the letter to explain what you are talking about) the gentlemen agreed and I walked off around the back. The rear of the house contains a very interesting barn that would be worth a look in good light, but on to the confluence. I opened the gate to the empty field and walked to the spot. Marked with the umbrella (from 52N5W and 52N4W) I took the photos in the failing light, walked back to the house, thank the gentleman for the access and then back to the car to announce my success.
