30-Jan-2001 -- I live in Starkville, Mississippi, home of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and half-way between two confluences. So after heading north for my first confluence (34N,89W), I went south to find 33N, 89W. I had researched with the topographic maps and aerial photos, so I was pretty confident about finding it. You can see from the aerial photo that the confluence lies only about 15 yards from a paved road.

On Tuesday (30-Jan-01), I didn't have class and got off work at 11:00am. I checked a digital camera out of the library and was off. I still had my friend's GPS (thanks, Mike Hazelwood). This time I decided to try to see if I could use the GPS to lead me straight there. I got the Lat/Lon coordinates of all the turns I needed to make off the topographic map and programed them into the GPS as waypoints. It worked pretty well.

As you can see in picture #3, I was able to park right off the road in a little clearing only about 30 yards from the confluence. The clearing is plainly visible on the aerial photo as well. After taking a few pictures of the area (#4&5), I tried to get my GPS to show exactly 33°00,00.0N and 89°00,00.0W. I eventually got it, but the picture did not turn out. The best I have is 33°00,00.1N and 89°00,00.1W (picture #6).

After finishing up, I went west through Noxapater, took a few pictures, and headed home. The whole thing only took a couple of hours. I have more pictures posted on my site if you want to take a look.
