15-Jan-2002 -- After purchasing our GPS device I found out this confluence-searching site on the Internet and immediately (my wife and I) wanted to find at least one of them.

We started to drive from Stockholm, and drove approximately 200 km north. The weather was not at the best: +3 degrees C., but if you’ve made up your mind, you have, and there is nothing more to it, than to go for it!

We drove as close as 850 meters, but there was a problem: the confluence is on the middle of a lake! And the ice on the lake wasn’t thicker than 10 cm and the lake itself had some undercurrents. But if you have got this close, we didn’t want to give up, even if it meant that it would take some swimming!

The ice was black on our side of the shore, so we needed to walk around and try from the opposite side. After some snowy walking (in deep snow, at times up to half a meter, in 3 km), we finally found some ice that could hold at least one of us. I, Erkki, took the camera and the GPS with me and carefully started to find my way on the thin, black, ice.

I found the place, and started to take some pictures, but then my camera batteries died! Back to the shore, new batteries and some more pictures, and from there the long way back.

And we sure were wet when we arrived back to the car!
