13-Jan-2002 -- Since our time on the island was limited, we decided to try this second confluence (N18 W66) the same day as N18 W67.
At first we did not think we were able to reach the confluence because it appeared that it was located behind a large hill that was covered in dense vegetation. After some searching for another road, we discovered that we were on the wrong road. Puerto Rico has a lot of roads that “Y” off and don’t bother telling you which way to go, or what highway number you are on.
So, once we were on the right track, our road came within about 20 meters of the confluence. After walking back and forth on the edge of the highway, we determined that the confluence was located behind this very nice house in picture # 7.
Once again, I did not have my mission statement printed out. Luckily the owner did speak good English. I explained what we were doing and she gave us permission to navigate into her back yard. I gave her the address to the website and assured her that we were only taking pictures and she could visit the site to see them after they were posted. She was very nice and granted us permission. I am sure that she thought we were somewhat strange and demented as she watched us walk back and forth on the side hill in her back yard.
Picture # 6 is looking south from near the highway. The red arrow shows the white pipe (the natural confluence marker). Picture # 7 shows the owners house from the highway. The old car and the confluence are located directly behind the house.
