03-Aug-2002 -- This confluence appeared to be rather straight forward but
once again, there was more to it than expected.
The day began heading up highway 6 until we came to the
town of Mulvihill. The GPS, at this time showed us approx
11 km away so with some trial and error, found a gravel road
that knocked the distance off in quick manner. This first
road led us to a gate with a sign that stated "close gate
after entering" so we did and on we went. Another few kms
in before another gate with another sign obstructed our way.
As the sign stated same, we did same and continued once again.
By this time, the gravel road had reduced itself down to
pretty much two trails through the long grass with a
number of large potholed puddles to cross. The GPS still
had us cutting the distance though. This 'road' finally came
to a point where it was useless to us, leading directly into
a large marsh area. An attempt at walking this marsh also
proved to be futile so back to the truck. Another 'road' we
had passed a little ways back led us to more marsh and lake.
We managed to get within 2300 meters but water blocked
every route in. A canoe may be the answer (albiet quite
muddy) but a sure bet would be a January attempt.
