#1: General surroundings of the site 51N 98W, it's snowing

(visited by Gerhard Vogel)

13-Jan-2004 -- Maria, Erwin, and myself where at this confluence on January 02 2004 but our pictures turned out too dark, it was too late in the day for good photos.

I promised to return and get daylight photos and this is the new visit report to fulfill this promise.

The night before the trip was quite cold (-28° C) turning to milder temperatures by noon. I went alone and with a used snowmobile just purchased a few days before, this caused some concern. Will it get me the 4 Km from the truck to the confluence and back?

Hoping for a shorter route to the confluence I went a different route from the one we took with my son and Maria on the first visit, but there where a few dead ends with barbwire fences and the result was about the same as the first trip.

It started to snow more as time went by and when I had arrived at the confluence the wind and snow where quite strong. It had cooled off again and my GPS and the camera where slowing down their reaction time. The heavy snowfall and cloudy sky made everything look grey.

The return was easier; I steered around the rocks that I had hit on way in, avoiding falling off the snowmobile again, the snowmobile had made it back with no breakdowns!

After loading up the equipment and snowmobile on my truck, there still was enough light for a few pictures before driving home.

On the way out to highway #6 I notified the manager of the Community Pasture of my safe return, expressed my thanks for his kind help, and explained to him the nature of the Confluence Project plus the website where he can look up the confluence so near to his house.
