27-Apr-2003 -- Sunday morning in Utah: All stores are closed, don't want to go snowboarding, but there's a confluence west of Salt Lake City that I haven't visited before.

I first drove about 60 miles due west on I-80, then left the highway at junction 62, and followed a good (paved) road north for about 5+ miles, before taking a dirt road the rest of the way.

As I got close to the area, I watched the GPS counting down the distance to the point, when the numbers increased again, I turned around and parked the car.

At this point it was less than a km to the confluence point, so I put my camera in the front pocket of my jacket, turned on the compass function in the GPS, and started off, following the needle.

As I got close, I had to cross a small ridge, and I can see that the point is located on a little flat area. About 3-4 m before I get all the desired zeroes on my GPS, I walk by the cairn left by a previous visitor.

Today I had perfect conditions, including WAAS differential correction on 9 out of 10 satellites, so I feel confident that the cairn is indeed a few meters away from the exact spot. I did not bother moving it though!
