01-Nov-2003 -- Having submitted my first unsucessful attempt last week I was determined to do better and a trip to London for a rowing race proved the ideal opportunity. On the way back to Birmingham I had planned to drive north from London to 52N,0 and head west to take in the next 2 confluences as well (more anon). It has been a dry autumn in England, but as luck would have it the last 2 days have been very wet so I was a bit anxious of the state of the field. It proved claggy, but not wet and I think the farmer has learnt to expect confluence seekers, because like previous visitors I found that the tractor had run exactly along the meridian and I could follow the tracks right from the footpath to the confluence. Pic 1 is the spot looking south, and Pics 2 and 3 show the evidence. I'd noticed that the previous visitors don't have the requested cardinal point views so I completed the set with Pic 4 to the E, Pic 5 to the N and Pic 6 to the W. And so back to car helping a lost cyclist on the way - he seemed impressed that I had both OS map and GPS! Finally a last Pic 7 of the picturesque flint Barway church - a common feature in eastern England.
