12-Oct-2004 – We have visited this confluence with group of second year students of Karazin Kharkiv National University (Geology and Geography Department) instead of Tuesday classes. I, Associate Professor Olga Blinkova, Ph.D., with the students have left Karazin Kharkiv National University about 15.15 in two cars (“Tavria” and “Volga”) and moved to the West of the Kharkiv. That day the Prime Minister of Ukraine visited our city and there were lots of policemen on the roads. Fortunately, nobody stopped us, even if we had six people in every car! It took us about 30 minutes to leave the Kharkiv and come to Solonitsevka, the village near the Kharkiv city. In Solonitsevka we stopped and checked the coordinates. They were a little bit more then 50 and 36. After studying of a topographic map it became clear, that the confluence is near small village Shpakovka, to the South of Solonitsevka. We spend about half an hour trying to find way to Shpakovka. It was cloudy and cold that day, we tried to move by legs with Oleg Sklyar in the head of the group, but after some small time decided to use cars. Oleg Sklyar was running in the head of cars with GPS in hand (we used Garmin ETrex Venture). BTW, the roads are awful in Shrakovka, but we were prepared for this and were not surprised. Near the railroad we stopped, left cars, and rushed into the forest, with wild rabbits, looking at the coordinates on GPS. Finally, we found the spot in a swamp 200 m to the West of Shpakovka (see photo)! Special thanks: Oleg Sklyar for navigation, Serguei Andreev for the second car.
