06-Nov-2004 -- My friend Laurence and I started out from Charlotte. We drove up I-77 to I-40 to 115. We then drove on Coolbrook Rd. to Fox Mountain Rd. At this point we got pretty close to the confluence, but decided to look around for a better place to park. According to the map we had, there was another road to the south of the confluence that got pretty close. The other road turned out to be a horse trail. We were able to park the car on the trail, well off the road. We were about a half a mile away at this time. The trail was very wide with a lot of fresh horse prints and other indications that horse had been on the trail recently. We stayed on the trail and it turned almost due west. After walking due west for a while we came within about a tenth of a mile from the confluence. At this point we had to go down a steep slope into a very wooded area to get to the confluence. After some slipping and sliding down the mountain, we closed in on the confluence. Just before we got to it we came upon several small shallow pits. It looked like either trees or poles of some sort were dug out of the ground. A little beyond we came upon the confluence. It took a little while to get all zeros on the GPS, but when I did, the confluence was just to the east of a small, slender pair of trees. I took my usual shots North, South, East, and West. After taking the pictures, we had to climb back up to the horse trail and hike back to the car.
