07-Sep-2023 -- This CP is located in the forested area of the Gorges du Lison (« Lison Canyon ») and the visit offers a charming short hike in one of the most preserved landscape in France. The actuel point is in the cliff immediately under the rim of the canyon and zeroing the point can be hazardous and would certainly need a rope and other security gear. Do not attempt a zeroing alone ! Interestingly, the location of the CP is very similar to the location of N36 W112, just beneath the rim of the Grand Canyon, although the scale of the landscape is very different !
The CP lies approximately 18 km east of the Saline Royale d’Arc et Senans. The Saline Royale is an extraordinary example of early industrial architecture built during the european enlightment era. The construction started in 1775 ; it was ordered by the french king Louis XV who comissionned the architect Nicolas Ledoux. At that time, salt was an extremely valuable production under state regulation. Salt was produced after a complex process involving many concentration stages of salted water. The salt production lasted 120 years and was definitively stopped in 1895 as it was economically challenged by railroad transportation of sea salt.
