16-Mar-2001 -- This is another "drive-by". The confluence is next to highway 389 outside Colorado City in Arizona at the border to Utah. It is located behind a gas station. Everybody seems to know everybody else here, at least that is the impression we got from the way people looked at us even before we got out of the car to do our thing. Just turning into a dirt road to park provoked some people driving past us to turn their heads. I guess strangers are expected to pass through to one of the famous attractions close by: Zion National Park, Grand Canyon North Rim and Lake Powell.
Once out of the car we scaled a barbed wire fence and stood in a field littered with trash. It was beginning to rain and the mountains northeast of us received some snow. Now if people looked at us moving back and forth in that field with GPS, compass, umbrella and camera it would have been understandable...
