30-Aug-2008 --
This confluence was visited as part of our camping trip to North Platte, Nebraska. I drove west on I-80 to the Hershey interchange where I exited the Interstate Highway and proceeded south in NE Spur 56c which is also known as Dickens Rd. I continued south on Dickens Rd through rolling agricultural land marked by pastures interspersed with irrigated, lush corn fields.
When I crossed 41N I noted a field drive entrance where I could pull off the road and park. I walked across the road and my GPS showed the confluence point lay about 378 feet to the ENE in a pasture with shin-high grass and scattered animal droppings. The day was sunny with some clouds and the brisk south wind so typical of summer afternoons on the prairie. I could not obtain wind speed and would estimate the temperature to be in the low to mid 80 degrees Fahrenheit range; a perfect day for confluence hunting. The GPS was quickly zeroed out in this wide open country. However, the readings wanted to float a bit so I danced some more until I could obtain zeros long enough for photo documentation. I then made photos of the cardinal directions and ground cover. I did not encounter any people or animals on this confluence visit. The land was not posted and there was no farmhouse nearby to inquire for permission. I did see irrigation equipment operating in the corn field on the west side of Dickens Rd. This confluence is so easy to visit, I was quite surprised to find that I am only the fourth person to log a visit to it. Dickens Rd. is paved and easily accessible from the major highways of Interstate 80 and U.S. 30. I returned to North Platte via I-80, satisfied with my successful visit to 41N 101W.
