On a foggy Sunday afternoon in December, I decided to close the gap of visited confluences on latitude 50° N. I have been to all confluences between 4° E and 13° E except 8° E although this confluence is located only 40 km away from the town where I live.

As the water level of the river Rhine was very high at this day I was not sure if we could reach Oestrich-Winkel without any detours. Later we saw, that the water was only half a meter below the road level at certain locations.

We used the navigation system of the car to drive very close to the confluence in Oestrich-Winkel. After reading the reports of earlier visits, we knew that the confluence is located on private ground. As we were not able to enter the site and the landowner was not at home, we had to make our photos from a distance of approximately 25 m away from the confluence. Nearby (about 80 m away) we found a confluence monument.

I asked my kids to continue the trip to the Christmas market in the (for tourists very famous) city of Ruedesheim close to the river Rhine and to go by cable car on top of the hills to visit the "Niederwald" memorial. It was very windy and cold but the view down to the river is always very nice and it´s always fun to observe all the tourists coming from all over the world to visit my home region.
