03-Okt-2016 -- Während des Herbsturlaubes auf Kreta bot sich die Gelegenheit, den Konfluenzpunkt 35N 25E zu besuchen.

Im Mietwagen führte der Weg über Heraklion Richtung Süden. Entlang der Straße E097 erreicht man nach ca. 40 km die Ortschaft Agioi Déka. Von hier aus ging es auf einer schmaleren Landstraße ca. 7 km zum letzten Dorf vor dem Konfluenzpunkt. Es heißt Vayioniá und ist umgeben von Olivenbaumplantagen. Von Nordwesten kommend, führt der Weg an der Kirche vorbei, direkt durch den Ortskern mit seinem Hauptplatz. In der Mittagshitze war hier nichts los. Am Ortsausgang befindet sich ein Gehege mit einigen typisch kretischen Ziegen. Nun routete das GPS auf einen Feldweg nach links, wegführend von der asphaltierten Straße. Nach ca. 450 m führte der Feldweg an einer kleinen Kapelle vorbei.

Als eine zu große Bodenwelle das Weiterkommen für den Kleinwagen unmöglich machte, begann der Fußmarsch. Nach ca. 250 Metern zeigte das GPS nun nur noch 164 m, links wegführend von dem Weg, auf ein Olivenbaumfeld. Auch diese waren schnell zurückgelegt und dank des sehr guten Empfangs konnte das Foto der GPS-Anzeige schnell gemacht werden. Eine Genauigkeit von 2 Metern ist eher selten. Nach den weiteren Fotos vor Ort war der Besuch perfekt. Bei Windstille und glühender Hitze ging es zurück zum Auto und zurück, an der Olivenölfabrik „Olive Olea“ hinter Vayioniá vorbei, Richtung Hotel und Strand.

Der CP-Besuch brachte eine intensive Bekanntschaft mit der ländlichen Gegend Kretas mit sich.

03-Oct-2016 -- The Autumn holidays on Crete gave the opportunity to visit the only land based Confluence point 35N 25E on this Greek island.

By use of a rental car the visit started with passing Heraklion and further direction south. Along the road E097 you reach the village Agioi Déka after about 40 km. From there a smaller road leads 7 km to the last village before the confluence point. It is named Vayioniá and is surrounded by many olive tree plantations. By coming from northwest the road passes the church and leads to the central village place. Nobody was to see during the midday heat. At the end of the village an enclosure was to see with typical Crete goats. Soon the GPS was routing along a farm lane to the left, leaving the paved road. After 450 m the path passes a little chapel.

A short distance later a big ground wave made the further trip by car impossible. So the walk began. After 250 meters the GPS showed only another 164 meters direction left, into the olive tree area. These last steps were done soon and thanks to the good reception, the necessary picture of the GPS display could be done fast. The accuracy was shown with only two meters, which happens not often. Now the other pictures of the area und the four directions were taken and so this visit was perfect. The car was reached under heavy weather conditions, meaning lull and awful heat. After the village a local olive company “Olive Olea” was to see.

With many new and especially agricultural impressions this visit was done and the hotel and, more important, the beach was reached at the end.
