02-Jul-1999 -- Actually the first picture I took
is of my cat Chuck. I was trying out a new toy before I went out to do
field work. I am not sure how other people work with new equipment; I
usually like to try it out before I have to do "real" work with it.
There is a story of how Chuck came to be my cat; I may be tempted to
actually write it down.
The actual fieldwork is as follows. I went to Island
drive, don't believe the Internet map for the actual
location of the street. This is supposed to be just due east of this
location. Using the map I printed off of the Internet, I figured just a
few feet off of the road and I would be there. The street pilot told
me, it was not just a few feet east from the road. Island Drive makes a
right turn and heads east. So following the road and the GPS units, lead
me to the spot. There was this very
"friendly and pesky" dog. I gave him a dog treat and told him to leave
me alone and go home. This another story for later.
My first attempt to photograph the GPS units on a very convenient
fence post was not very successful, even the viewer indicated I would
not get a good picture. Photograph #2 was taken from a different
angle the other side of the fence. I brought the 175 along just in case
the street pilot would not photograph well. According to the Internet map,
the actual location of 120w and 37n is the Fresno River about 100
or so feet south of here past the row of trees in picture #6. Pictures #1
and #3 thru #5 are views starting from the north, east, south, and west.
I would like to come back here in the winter and spring time and take
another set of pictures. Fall and summer are pretty much the same, dry
and either hot or warm.
