17-May-2001 -- This confluence is the closest to the town where I live, Richfield, Utah. I had driven by many times but never had the time to stop. Today I took the time. I drove to a dirt rode turn-off and then rode my mountain bike to within about 500 meters of the point. There's not much to see at the confluence because it's in the bottom of a small canyon and in the midst of the typical Great Basin flora - pinion pine, juniper and sage brush.

I took some photos from higher ground to show the surrounding area. To the south are the white gypsum hills. The gypsum is mined and processed at Sigurd, Utah where both Georgia Pacific and U.S. Gypsum operate small wallboard manufacturing plants.

To the east is the town of Salina, Utah. The Convulsion Canyon coal mine is about 20 miles further east. Most of its output goes through Salina in trucks.

To the west is the Pahvant Mountain range. U.S. Highway 50 is nearby. It connects with Interstate Highway 15 at Scipio (SIP-ee-oo) where most traffic travels on north to the Salt Lake City and Wasatch Front areas.

I had a flat tire on my bike, so I enjoyed a few extra minutes at the confluence doing repairs. I left no monument of any kind. The elevation was about 1,875 meters. There were many wild flowers in bloom. A good day exploring is better than any other day.
