#1: July 25 - looking west at the confluence

(visited by Warren Apel, Larry Jacobi, Archie Kerr and Tricia Apel)

05-Jul-2002 -- This confluence is quite close to Noblesville Regional Airport, so after an Independence Day picnic, my friends Archie and Larry took me for a couple of rides around the confluence site in their airplanes.

On the satellite photos, you can see the airplane flight path in blue lines -- the red lines were undertaken by foot. I managed to get some aerial photos of the site. I thought it was an important one to revisit for two reasons: it hasn't been visited in summer yet, and it's slated for development soon. The sign on the closest intersection says that it's "the future home" of a Marsh Supermarket.

After the flight, (on July 26, 2002) Tricia and I went back to visit the site on foot and photograph it from the ground. My first attempt got foiled by rain -- the confluence itself is in the middle of a lowlying area that floods during the summer rains. I got within 50 feet of the confluence, approaching it from the Eastern bank as storm clouds converged. I took several digital photos, and some APS print shots before the rain started coming down.

The next day, I visited the site again to get closer to the confluence. I approached from the Western bank of the lake, and got even closer.

I'll go back next summer, assuming the confluence will be in the middle of a supermarket parking lot!
