15-Aug-2005 -- Although I and my family live in Maryland, I had unknowingly driven past this confluence point located in near Hutchinson, Kansas many times in the past. My wife grew up on a farm not far from Hutchinson. Over the years, we had driven from Maryland to Kansas so the kids could spend time with their grandparents and have fun on the farm. My wife’s sister now lives on the farm. I took the opportunity of a visit this summer to travel to another confluence point.
This point actually is less than 100 m north of a dirt road named "Morgan Ave." It is a short drive just off of Route 50. When I pulled off the road, I noticed that the milo had grown to about a meter high. There was no farm house nearby so I did not know who owned the property. It would have been easy to walk through the field. However, given that I was within 100 meters of the confluence point and out of respect for those who make their livelihood farming I did not want to harm, even accidentally, any of the crop. The first picture is of the milo field surrounding the confluence point looking north. The next successive shots are pointing to the east, south, and west respectively.
I have also included a shot of the GPS receiver and of a milo stalk.
