14-Jan-2000 -- After visiting 37N 97W, I coded the 38N 98W as a waypoint into the GPS to use as a countdown. Armed with a local map showing the streets around the confluence from Street Atlas 7.0, I headed northwest.

This is the simplest confluence I've visited. The eastbound road was smooth, packed and sandy, and led me to within 40 yards of what appears to be a wheat field, small sprouts of green growing in non-furrowed, which I assume to be winter wheat. No fence, either. Going north from the car I attempted to tread lightly the 60 or so steps to arrive. Although the sun was out and not too cool (about 45°F), the 25+ mph breeze made me glad it was a short excursion.

I took the required pictures and headed back to the protection from the wind in the car. The two pictures north, barely show the traffic on US-50, about a mile away. These pictures seem to show what I think most people visulize when you say, "Kansas."
