12-Aug-2010 -- This continues the small series of 2nd time visits, this time I haven't been here for nearly 7 years. Well overdue a revisit. Having over-nighted from 52N-03W it is only about 60 miles to get here. Takes a bit of time though, these quiet country roads don't lend themselves to making fast progress.

I pulled up the small inclined road leading to the entrance to the quarry. Strangely enough, just as last time here, there were people just standing around and waiting! We exchanged "Hello's" and I se off into the quarry. Having taken due note of course that quarries are dangerous.

The office is now boarded up - all the glass has been smashed - and the weigh scale has also been vandalised. The office is now empty, all tables & paperwork are gone.

As you walk further into the quarry you can see old rusty bits of equipment, clearly not used for many years. Which makes the two 1000 litre containers of "premium quality metal forming oil" all the more puzzling. The date of fill is January 2007.

I climbed a small mound to take the panorama of the quarry, you only see a small part of it here a check on google earth will reveal the rest - perhaps another visit?

Follow the path around to the right and wrestle my way through the ferns soon gets me to the spot. Doesn't look much different, obviously a lot more ground cover given the season. The panorama is taken standing on the spot looking SE thru SW.

I have to make tracks and make my way back to the car, the other visitors have gone somewhere, their cars are sill there though. I will squeeze one more in today at 53N-03W.
